Prairie Souls
ABOUT
Prairie Souls
was created exclusively for Albertans.
The brand celebrates the art of the prairies, specifically the type of art that we grew up loving; beautiful canola fields, vistas of expansive sunsets, wildlife, and farming antiques. Each vintage will feature a new artist, with seasonal releases of their work throughout the year.
It is our hope that the artists gain publicity while customers have a conversation piece to discuss at the table, to collect, to gift to someone or merely just to appreciate the beauty of this area.
We want to bring awareness to the beautiful local art we have in Western Canada.
Each label features a QR code that points to the artist’s website alongside a portion of the wine costs as commission to the artist.

Where Wine Meets Art
Rania Burns hopes that we see Prairie Souls as the small Alberta wine label that could.
The initial releases of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are available in select liquor retailers in Alberta — and it’s hard to miss the bottles, with labels created by artist Suzanne Sandboe, from Sexsmith.
Burns, a former national-team rugby player who worked in the wine industry in both California and British Columbia before coming back home to Edmonton, wanted to have Alberta artists showcase their work on the bottles. Sandboe’s wintery windmill scene adorns the red, while a prairie grain elevator against a big sky backdrop is labeled on the white.

The Tomato - Wine Maven
Rania Burns wanted to create a wine that reflected her love of the Prairies.
“This is a passion project; I’m leading from the heart. I want it to be something dear to me. My family had an outfitting business, and being in the outdoors was a big part of my upbringing. These are the people I had in mind, people enjoying being around the table with each other.”
She also wanted the label to reflect the beauty of the Prairies and the sense of community she has always found here. She fell in love with Peace Country artist Suzanne Sandboe’s depictions of Prairie life. “We chose compelling symbols of rural community—the grain elevator and the windmill. Suzanne is an amazing human being as well as an incredible artist.”
